Nicolas Magrez has over 9 years of experience in commercial law with a focus on Intellectual Property and IT law. He has developed a particular expertise and reputation in the outdoor industry sector. After his studies, Nicolas started at Katz-Law, a highly regarded niche law firm specialized in Copyright and Trademark law. Strong of this first conclusive professional experience, Nicolas left Belgium and moved to Hong Kong where he worked as General Counsel of the International Group of Companies Maroma Ltd, which namely includes the brands Pacsafe (Outdoor Industry) and Dropsafe (Oil and Gas Industry). As General Counsel, Nicolas has gained broad experience in implementing and enforcing International strategies for intellectual property protection (trademark, patent and copyright protection) and in negotiating important commercial agreements such as Supplier, Retailer and Distributor Agreements on a global scale.

He manages a portfolio of hundreds of trademarks and patents in thirty countries, including prosecution, enforcement and management of litigation with national lawyers, namely in the US, China and Europe.

He's a bilingual (French, English) Belgium qualified attorney and holds a Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Brussels (ULB 2008), a LL.M. in Intellectual Property law from the University of Leuven (KUL 2010) and a Master in Management from Solvay Business School (Solvay 2011).


Pieter Goovaerts has developed an outstanding expertise in IP law for more than 7 years. He started as a junior attorney in the generalist law firm VLV and decided to specialize in Intellectual Property. He worked at the niche law firm JVM for almost three years, where he focused on copyright and contract law for clients in the arts and media industry.

Prior to joining Magrez Law, he was a trademark attorney at Pronovem a well-known patent and trademark agency, where he managed trademark portfolios for several international and Belgian clients in the fields of luxury furniture, media, food and event organization.

He joined Magrez Law in November 2017 to expand the current practice of the firm.

He's a trilingual (French, Dutch, English) Belgium-qualified attorney and holds a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Brussels (VUB 2008), a LL.M in Law and Technology from the University of Ottawa (uOttawa 2010).
